Support the choir...

The Cantata Singers uses any donations it receives to support its music programmes. This additional funding helps the choir pay for other members of the musical community (such as instrumental and vocal soloists and other choirs) to join us in our performances, permitting a wider range of programming. It also helps the choir commission new musical works by Ottawa and other Canadian composers or to prepare a new CD.

The Cantata Singers of Ottawa is an auditioned choir. All new and returning members are auditioned by the Music Director before being accepted into the choir.

The choir maintains a fun and productive schedule. Regular rehearsals are every Tuesday night from 7:15 PM to 9:45 PM in downtown Ottawa. There is usually a pair of Saturday and Sunday afternoon rehearsals once a month, and additional rehearsals just before concerts. We usually get together each year at a weekend retreat to enjoy some different music, improve our overall choral quality, and, above all, to have some fun!

The season usually starts at the beginning of September and finishes in May or June, depending on the concert schedule for the year. Occasionally, we tour in Canada and other parts of the world.

General pre-requisites are good sight-reading abilities and good vocal quality. When an invitation is extended to join the choir, a condition of acceptance is a commitment to attend all rehearsals and concerts (except where permission has been granted to miss a rehearsal or concert).

If you think you fit the qualifications and you would like to join the choir, please send an e-mail message to csoauditions (at) cantatasingersottawa.ca with the following information:

• your choral experience. For each choir, please include
  • the name of the choir
  • the number of years you were with the choir
  • the name(s) of the director(s)
• whom of your former directors we could ask for references
• your musical education (voice lessons, instrumental lessons, etc.)
• your voice part (S, A, T or B) and, if possible, your range
• your address and phone number(s) (please specify day / evening)
• the name of the audition piece you would bring. The choice is yours, but it should suit the profile of the Cantata Singers of Ottawa
